Artistic Director, French Ballet Instructor

Maître Rodolphe Cassand is the recipient of a strong artistic heritage from great ballet masters, and is passing on his secrets to his dancers.

 

Born in Dijon, France, he began his ballet training at age 7 with his mother Monique Dornier (formerly with Paris Opera Ballet, and former principal dancer at age 18 at Capitole de Toulouse and Grand Theatre de Dijon) He then joined Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris (CNSM)  studying with Paris Opera ballet masters Daniel Franck, Roger Ritz, and Serge Golovine, and graduated with honors in Technique and Theory.

 

At age 17 he was invited to join Ballet National de Marseille directed by the legendary Roland Petit. He rapidly became soloist and was featured in Maître Petit’s TV special Ma Pavlova as the Black Swan.

 

He was a soloist at San Francisco Ballet and National Ballet of Marseilles- Roland Petit,  and has danced with Smuin Ballet, Lines Contemporary Ballet, American Ballet Theater
and DTH.

 

Rodolphe Cassand was a guest ballet performer in Maryland Ballet, Japan Ballet Festival, Bermuda City Ballet, Paris Opera, La Scala Italy, Berlin National Theater, Barcelona Theater, National Theater of Cairo, Acropolis- Athens Greece, Piazza Saint Marco
Venice- Italy, Auckland Theater
-New Zealand, Jakarta National Theater- Indonesia, and MET- New York.

 

In a span of 22 years, he danced in over 1,000 performances worldwide, including productions led by such stars of ballet as Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Natalia Makarova, Patrick Dupont, Carla Fracci, Alessandra Ferri, Peter Shaufuss, Vladimir Vassiliev, Ekaterina Maximova.

 

He has worked with renowned choreographers including Roland Petit, Glenn Tetley, William Forsythe, Alonzo King, and Michael Smuin who have shaped his prodigious creativity.

 

His teaching credits include Masterclasses at University of California Cal Poly and on tour with Smuin Ballet; Company classes & Adult classes at Alonzo King Lines Contemporary Ballet, Summer programs at University of Moscow Idaho, Great Falls MO, Paso Robles CA, Monterey CA and Nancy France. He taught a full semester at Shenandoah University in Winchester VA, and now directs his own school in Mountain View, CA.

 

Since 2009, he has devoted himself to teaching, choreographing and staging productions. His creativity, passion and dedication to the art of performance are an inspiration for his students, dancers and audience members alike.

 

He has created 4 full length ballets in a 5 year tenure at Cassand Ballet.
